Track Enhancements and North Bay Station Construction
Exciting News for the Northlander!
Ontario Northland hosted Minister Prabmeet Sarkaria, MPP Vic Fedeli, and North Bay Mayor Peter Chirico, for a special announcement on the Northlander project. We’re proud to share that the Ontario government is nearing completion of more than $100 million worth of investments in rail infrastructure. Ontario Northland is excited to highlight track improvement work along the corridor, which will enhance comfort, safety, and reduce travel times for Northlander passengers. This investment demonstrates a strong, shared commitment to delivering safe, accessible and modern transportation for communities across northeastern Ontario.
Important rail infrastructure work, including joint elimination, curve adjustments, grade crossing enhancements and more, will improve comfort, safety, and reduce travel times for Northlander passengers. New warning systems and updated signage at select rail crossings, improving sightlines, and adding gates to existing crossings will further enhance safety along the network.
We’re also thrilled to announce that a contract has been awarded for renovations at North Bay Station. Renovations are focused on new digital screens, seating and service counters, as well as washroom, lighting and wayfinding enhancements to improve accessibility and comfort. Similar modernization projects have already begun at Cochrane and Englehart stations and are expected to be complete in the spring.
The Northlander will transform how people travel throughout the region, connecting northern and southern Ontario. These upgrades are paving the way for a modern, passenger-focused experience.
